The trick: Scope Swap

Meta and Microsoft are kicking the Claude habit, says the headline.

What they cut is staff seats. Claude stays inside Microsoft's own tool.

Issue 388 October 202616 receipts3 min

The Information reports Meta and Microsoft are pushing staff off Claude.

Before you read on. Your call?

Meta's internal Claude Code users fell from about 60,000 to about 30,000, and spring layoffs explain part of that. Microsoft cut an internal projection of at least $1 billion by more than a third.

The twist

It is internal seats only. Customer spending on Claude via Azure and Bedrock continues to grow, Claude models remain inside Copilot CLI, and neither company has announced anything.

30,000Meta employees using Claude Code now
60,000Meta employees using Claude Code earlier this year
10%share of Meta staff hit by spring layoffs

Say this in tomorrow's meeting“Meta and Microsoft cut staff seats for Claude Code in favour of their own tools, but Claude still runs inside Microsoft's Copilot CLI and customer spend on Claude via Azure is growing.”
