The trick: Scope Swap
Bezos says AI will bring three-day work weeks and make it hard to hire.
The coverage in our record gives no timeline, and Amazon has cut about 30,000 corporate roles since late last year.

In a Fox News interview aired 7 October, Bezos said that with AI-driven productivity some people will decide they can support their family working three days a week, and that it will be difficult to hire people. Fortune headlined that a three-day workweek and more single-income households are on the way.

TRUE, BUT
30,000
The American Bazaar reports Bezos did not provide a timeline or explain how productivity gains would become higher household incomes or shorter hours, and that his remarks describe a possible future rather than an announced change to Amazon's employment policies. Fortune reports Amazon has cut about 30,000 corporate roles since late last year.
The twist
The accounts on record for Amazon's cuts differ. The American Bazaar reports Bezos attributed them to pandemic-era expansion. Andy Jassy, Amazon's CEO, wrote to staff in June 2025 that Amazon expects AI to reduce its total corporate workforce in the next few years, and said in October 2025 that the layoff announcement was not even really AI driven, not right now.
