The trick: Circular Money
Mistral's €3 billion raise is being sold as a win for Europe's AI independence.
Per Tech Funding News, the round hands equity to three of Mistral's own chip and cloud partners, Samsung, ASML and Nvidia, the same Nvidia whose GPUs Mistral took on an $830 million debt facility to buy back in March.
Mistral AI raised €3 billion in a Samsung-led Series D, nearly doubling its valuation to over €21 billion, calling it the largest equity round ever raised by a European tech company, with CEO Arthur Mensch saying Mistral projects it will pass $1 billion in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026.

TRUE, BUT
$830m
the raise and the valuation jump are real and confirmed by multiple outlets. Mistral's own $1 billion figure has not happened yet, per Euronews it is a stated projection for December, and MLQ.ai puts Mistral's actual annualized revenue run rate at $400 million as of February 2026.
The twist
per Tech Funding News, three of the round's investors, Samsung, ASML and Nvidia, are also Mistral's own hardware and cloud partners, and Mistral separately took on an $830 million debt facility in March to buy the GPUs made by one of those new shareholders.
