The trick: Headline Over Filing
Anthropic 'files for a $2T IPO' with a $42B loss.
The filing was confidential and submitted in June. The $2 trillion is what backers hope for. And most of the loss never left the bank.
A popular r/artificial post said Anthropic 'files for $2T IPO with $42B net loss in 2025, expects to spend half a trillion more.'

TRUE, BUT
$34 billion
Anthropic announced on June 1 that it had confidentially submitted a draft S-1 to the SEC; in the record we checked, no new public filing was made on September 29. Reuters reported the $42 billion loss and $518 billion in obligations from the draft prospectus. TechCrunch says the $2 trillion figure is what the company's own backers believe it could list above, against a $965 billion valuation from May.
The twist
Per Ynetnews, about $34 billion of the loss was an accounting expense reflecting the rising value of financing instruments that could convert into shares. The bigger the company is valued, the bigger that paper loss gets.
