Nineteen forty. British night-fighters are finding German bombers in total darkness. The public is told the pilots have a secret. Carrots. Eat enough, and you could see in the dark.
It was a lie. A beautiful one.
The real secret glowed on a screen they could not show you. Radar. Hidden behind a vegetable. So they gave the nation Doctor Carrot, and told everyone to eat up.
Here is the seed of truth. Carrots carry vitamin A, and your eyes burn it to see at night. Starve your body of it, and the dark wins. But once you have enough, more does nothing.
Verdict: Part BS. The night belonged to radar. The carrot only took the credit.
