   When they say a model is better, faster or cheaper, do independent evaluations agree?

   Starship's own flight record undercuts SpaceX's rapid-reusability pitch: on its most recent full test, 13 of the 33 booster engines failed to relight and the booster was lost. An independent satellite-industry analyst says the economics of Musk's planned orbital AI data centers, meant to house SpaceXAI compute, do not yet beat building more capacity on the ground.

   Do their valuation, revenue and user numbers survive contact with primary disclosures?

   SpaceX's June 2026 IPO raised $75 billion by pricing 555,555,555 shares at $135, valuing the company near $1.77 trillion and popping 11% at the open. A month later the stock had fallen below that same issue price, closing at $131.11 after a Starship launch delay dented confidence in the premium the valuation assumed.

   Musk announced in March that Starship would depart for Mars carrying the Optimus robot by the end of that year, with crewed landings as soon as 2029. By February, SpaceX had shelved the 2026 Mars attempt entirely, pushed the launch window to late 2028 or early 2029, and NASA's acting administrator publicly said the company was behind schedule on its separate lunar lander contract.

   When something went wrong, did they disclose it quickly and honestly?

   A former xAI engineer sued Musk's companies, naming SpaceX as xAI's parent, days before the SpaceX IPO, saying he was fired after raising safety concerns about Grok and was told AI would kill everyone anyway. Separately, the FAA grounded Starship after a booster came in hard instead of making its planned splashdown, though the agency reported no injuries or property damage.

   SpaceXAI's Grok Build coding tool was found quietly uploading users' entire code repositories, including files it had been told not to open and secrets already deleted from version history, to company cloud storage without clearly telling them. Musk responded by promising to open-source X's codebase for third-party review rather than disclosing the practice himself before it was reported.

   What do courts and regulators say about them?

   Eight fired SpaceX engineers sued Musk and the company, alleging Musk's conduct created a pervasively sexist culture where female engineers were routinely harassed. The National Labor Relations Board later dropped its own two-year case over the same firings on jurisdictional grounds, ruling SpaceX workers fall under a labor board with weaker protections than the one that covers most private employers.
